How did we come up with the name Poppetjie?
While researching the history of the pacifier, we found some interesting information that ties in with Homemade Mama’s own history.
Of Dutch descent, we found it very interesting that the Afrikaner mothers of the 19th century (a people descended from European settlers, including the Dutch)had used rags with sponge cake (suikerbrood) tied into them. This was used to keep the baby ‘pacified’.
This blanket was called a Poppetjie!

While I’m sure we can all agree that sponge cake is not healthy for a baby
(we’ve come a long way in history!) we hope our new pacifier blankie,
the Poppetjie, will be well received by parents, and babies alike!

To fasten your pacifier to the Poppetjie, simply put the ribbon loop into the pacifier handle, and pull the pacifier through!

This Poppetjie has been created with super soft
Hand Dyed bamboo velour on one side
& cute print fabric on the other side.

Homestead Emporium's Poppetjie (Poppie) blankies are
